What to Expect From Jeep's New Electric Recon and Battery Development Advancements

If you've ever heard that you can't take an electric vehicle off-roading, then Stellantis, Zeta Energy, and Jeep have something to say about it. Meet the Jeep Recon EV, a groundbreaking mid-sized SUV powered by an innovative lithium-sulfur battery. This fusion of Jeep’s off-road excellence with electric power offers adventure seekers a high-performance, eco-conscious EV that can truly tackle the trails. Jeep Recon EV Prototype: What We Know The Jeep Recon EV prototype will give us an exciting first peek at an electric off-road vehicle with some traditional Jeep features, along with some fantastic new modern ones: Rugged Jeep Design, Electrified Inspired by the Wrangler, the new Recon EV is obviously a Jeep, through and through- with Jeep’s classic rugged, boxy look, removable doors, tow hooks, and cloth top you can retract. And when you see its side-hinged tailgate, rear-mounted spare tire, sturdy rear plate, and all-terrain tires, it can be easy to forget you’re looking at an EV. Modern, Functional Interior Right down to the passenger grab handle, the new Recon EV’s practical Jeep roots are on full display. But when you really take in the interior view, you’ll find a very modern cabin with two digital displays, a rotary gear changer, and anti-roll bar disconnect buttons along with other off-road features. Electric Off-Road Performance “Well, it doesn’t have the horsepower or the handling of a Wrangler.” The new Recon EV has an answer back to that sentence, too. With its independent suspension and dual electric motors, the Recon EV promises better handling and more horsepower than the gas or hybrid versions of the Jeep Wrangler. And with a range of up to 200 miles, it can conquer virtually any of the toughest trails. Sometime in early 2025, the new Recon EV will be available starting at around $60,000, ready to deliver sustainable adventure without sacrificing the performance you’d expect from a Jeep. Stellantis Partners with Zeta Energy to Revolutionize EV Batteries Stellantis and Zeta Energy are making big waves in the vast EV waters with their major advancements in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery technology. Not only will this technology potentially cut manufacturing costs by more than 50%, but Li-S batteries pledge to be a lighter, cheaper, and more efficient alternative to lithium-ion batteries. The Importance of Lithium-Sulfur “Battery-shmattery. You still have to charge ‘em, and that takes a long time.” If Li-S batteries could talk, they’d have an answer back to that challenge, too. Not only does the higher energy density of Li-S batteries enhance the performance, range, and handling of EVs, but it also supports faster charging —reducing recharge times by up to 50%. So, a normal EV charge session that takes 23 minutes could happen in as little as 12 minutes with Li-S technology. Sustainability and Scalability One way to make production of EV batteries more sustainable and scalable is by using plentiful, cheaper materials. By saying goodbye to expensive elements like cobalt and nickel and saying hello to less expensive materials like methane and sulfur, Li-S batteries make big strides to lower manufacturing emissions. Looking to the Future With Stellantis’ big plans for EVs and advancements in battery technology in new models like the Jeep Recon EV, the future is bright for Jeep drivers. In the coming years, with the introduction of lithium-sulfur batteries, the constant search for a viable supply chain, and carbon neutrality given full support, the EV is here to stay and silence the naysayers. Experience the future of driving today and come see us at Savage L&B to give a Jeep EV a test drive! The Jeep Recon EV won’t be out until sometime in early 2025, but our team is all charged up and ready to help you get started on your newest Jeep EV adventure anywhere in the Reading, Allentown, and Philly areas and beyond.
